Built in 2022, Ching Ang Methodist Church in Sibu features UGI’s UNILOK® roofing profile in 0.48mm TCT VERMOE® steel, finished in the elegant Elegance Olive tone. Designed by JRC Architects, the project seamlessly blends aesthetic appeal with durable, long-lasting performance. The church has also earned recognition as an award-winning development at the BlueScope Architectural Awards 2024, celebrating its thoughtful design and quality craftsmanship.

Ching Ang Methodist Church carries a rich history. What began as a simple attap shack later evolved into a modest timber structure in 1941, before being transformed into a semi-concrete building in 1976. In its latest redevelopment, the client sought to honour this legacy of faith with a structure that reflects theological depth and accommodates a strong, 400-member congregation.

The new design takes inspiration from the traditional Sarawak longhouse, featuring a tent-like form that symbolises community, heritage, and spiritual gathering. Simple yet meaningful, the building is constructed almost entirely of steel and brick—offering sturdiness, functionality, and a modern expression of the church’s enduring presence in Sibu.
