Completed in 2024, the St. Ann’s Church’s extension features our signature UNILOK® metal roofing in BlueScope’s CAPERO® steel, delivering exceptional durability and a clean, modern finish. Designed by PDC Design Group, the project stands out for its strong cultural narrative and community-rooted architectural identity.
The design is heavily influenced by Dayak architecture, drawing inspiration from the traditional Bidayuh longhouse. This cultural reference is reflected in the form, layout, and spatial arrangement, making the extension one of the most uniquely Dayak-inspired church designs in Sarawak.
The extension consists of two new buildings—a classroom block and an administration block—strategically arranged in an L-shape to frame a spacious open-air courtyard. This central open space serves as a flexible area for gatherings, events, and community activities, reinforcing the church’s role as a communal hub.
Practical usability and accessibility were thoughtfully integrated into the design. Notably, the staircases are positioned outside the buildings, a symbolic gesture echoing imagery reminiscent of Noah’s Ark, adding both visual character and cultural storytelling to the structure.
The extension of St. Ann’s Church stands as a testament to architecture that celebrates identity, community, and faith—offering a design unlike any other church in the region.
